Featuring Foss, Susie Fox, David Strych 

 Delighted to be joining the brilliant group Foss, lovely singer Susie Fox and the unique talents of David Strych.  Foss are a four piece whose song choice is awesome quite frankly, I mean what band plays Jethro Tull's Bourree and Justin Hayward's Autumn Leaves from War of the Worlds and do fine justice to both?  That's just to name two songs?  Their bass player is David Strych and David in his solo capacity also has a superbly eclectic mix of songs; his Wuthering Heights on Harmonium is to be seen to be believed!  Brilliant!  Susie Fox plays quitar and sings, and sings beautifully, each song is delivered with such lovliness.  It's going to be a great night!  I can't wait!

Throughout the year there are regular exhibitions of artist who are all inspired by the local beauty and majesty of the moors landscape.

It's become a regular event now for me to sit in the gorgeous surroundings of the Art Gallery here at Danby.  I sit and play my harp and sing my songs, then every now and again I have a chat to visitors and artists.  It's really not work is it?!  I'm always inspired by all the lovely artists I meet and love to gaze at their paintings and sculptures.  The Exhibition Openings are always a pleasure to attend and I can highly recommend a visit!

I'm delighted to be asked to play for the Drinks Reception at Barley Hall,  The New York Times Best Selling Author Sharon Penman is here for the evening.   Sharon is a superb writer of high acclaim and this venue is particularly apt!  Sharons' historical novels include Lionheart, Cruel as the Grave, Devil's Blood and Dragon's Lair to name but a few!   

Although this is a private event do try and visit Barley Hall at some point if you've never been before - a magnificently restored medieval townhouse which shows how life would have been led in the late 1470's, Barley Hall also has regular exhibitions and events.

This is the weekend of the Autumnal Equinox and it's with great expectation I wish away the summer to take part in this lovely sounding festival!  

It is the first of two small festivals, then a big festival next summer.  There are four towns in Yorkshire taking part; Pocklington, Easingwold and Malton are also holding events.

 This is a community project and part of 'On Our Turf' a two year project led by York Theatre Royal.

The Little Fest is being held in various venues around the town, including cafes, pubs, shops, churches, outside areas, schools and any other area where there are people!

Sunday 6th October 2013 - The Guildhall, York - Make It Up North Exhibition

Make It Up North is a new three-day art event at York Guildhall with designs on making a big impact and even bigger one over the next three years.  The Art Market's pilot programme brings together artists, craftsmen and designer-makers from all over the country, complemented by a programme of workshops, talks, installations, demonstrations and live music.

I'm delighted to have been asked to play at the exhibition in the wonderful atmospheric surroundings of The Guildhall.  Around 40 top artists and designers will be showing and selling works.

As part of the week long Jorvik Viking Festival, Barley Hall is putting on this concert and I'm really exited about it.  Playing with two of my favourite musicians and also in a building that is very close to my heart.  I am joining my good friends Jane Stockdale and Chris Bartram aka To The Blue to do a support set for the wonderful and charismatic Ray Cooper.

"Born of a Scottish mother and an English father, Ray Cooper grew up in England and started to play in bands when he was 16. Moving between rock, punk, pop and world music, and working as a singer, bass guitar player and cellist, he finally hooked up with Oysterband in 1988 and began a long exploration into his own roots.  Moving to Sweden in 2000, Cooper continued playing with Oysterband, eventually touring in 27 countries and recording 19 albums. In 2012 they won 3 awards from BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards for best group, best album and best traditional track and were dubbed by fRoots magazine as one of the 3 ‘Icons Of Folk’..."

How fabulous that he's taking part in this festival!  It's a limited ticket event for this and they are sure to sell out pretty quickly so get a ticket quick!!!

Unfortunately I can't publicise this event too much as it's a very limited numbers event by invitation only.  But I was really pleased to be asked by Martyn Webster and isn't it wonderful that people are taking the time to organise small live music events.  Keeping music live and accessible to everyone ~ well done Martyn!

By the way The Once are fantastic - if you just go and check out their website they have other gigs coming up which you should try and get to if possible.   Beautiful harmonies and blending of voices, stories abound and just a gorgeous combination of instruments and vocals.  All the way from Newfoundland, Canada they are on tour over for a while.

Raising funds for Yorks St. Leonard's Hospice

 I took part in the Selby Little Fest back in September 2013 and it was a joyous weekend quite frankly!  The remit for the Little Fest is to play in various different venues and take the music to the people.  Lots of different genres of music were present and I think that the organiser Ellen Cole will have no problem in generating interest for this fine venture.  Raising money for the wonderful St. Leonard's Hospice is a great thing to be part of and I'm delighted to offer my services and my p.a. equipment to the cause.  I'll be soundwoman for the day and no doubt listen and be entertained by some brilliant music!

Friday 2nd May 2014 - St. Leonard's Hospice, York

I recently took part in a fundraising day called Folk Ahoy!  Ellen Cole organised the day and we made around £350 for the hospice via ticket sales and donations.  It was a fabulous celebration of local musical talent ~ everyone giving their time for a great cause.  As a follow on from this event I have been asked to visit the hospice and play for the patients.    I'll be doing a concert and then visiting patients on a one to one basis.  The work that the hospice does is incredible and humbling and I'm glad to be able to share my music for a while.

Yorks famous Festival of Food & Drink this year promises great things for every taste!  A week long festival held in the centre of town. Quite literally it's a celebration of great food, great drink and great music!  A real variety of solo musicians and bands across the genres have been put together by Ellen Cole.  She's managed to fill a whopping 6 days worth of music together - so come on down and treat yourself to something nice to eat, something refreshing to drink and listen to some local brilliant music!

"...The Staithes Festival of Arts and Heritage features a selling exhibition of artwork which will take place over the weekend of 13/14th September 2014 in temporary  galleries in cottages, houses and public spaces throughout the village...also this year a very special programme of music has been put together..."

I was delighted when Chris Wade asked if I was free to participate in this years Staithes Festival of Arts and Heritage - she said she was putting together a group of musicians who would busk around the village during the festival and take part in evening concerts.

I shall definately be singing The Flither Girls in honour of the brave and hardworking fisherfolk women of this beautiful coastline.

November Tour with Luna Rossa (November 2014)

New Album "Secrets & Lies" Mini-Tour

Beyond excited to be recording and on tour with my friend Anne-Marie Helder.  Anne-Marie and Jonathan Edwards of Panic Room got together to record their first album as a duo last  year.   Luna Rossa's first album 'Sleeping Pills & Lullabies' is quite frankly sublime and has had superb reviews.  Anne-Marie has a voice I have long admired and the combination of Jonathans stunning piano arrangements combined with a string quartet, bass, guitar, autoharp, celtic harp and celeste all meld together into something quite beautiful.  Despite being incredibly busy with the increasingly successful Panic Room they are recording again!  They have asked me to provide a bit of harp for their second album and play live with them.  What a lovely project to be part of!

For the tour there will be Anne-Marie on vocals and acoustic guitar, Jon on piano, Andy 'Wal' Coughlin on upright bass and myself on harp and backing vocals.

Organised by Rob Davies, last years show "Now That's What I Call a Christmas Show!" sold out and was a great success.  A packed 300 strong audience in the majestic Milton Rooms were treated to some great songs and dance.  Raising funds for Ryedale Special Families and supporting the wonderful work they do in the community.

A real variety show of great talent from around the region!  So far on the bill is Four Quarters and David Swann with more acts to be announced throughout the year.   Well done Rob!

I've been invited to entertain the guests at a Drinks Reception in the impressive Green Room up in the Mansion House in York.  I know this room well and have played there a couple of times.  But mostly I know it because my father Gerald was Sheriff of York in 1975!  Fond memories of those times actually...my Mum and Dad used to visit the children in hospital on official visits and someone would invariably ask where was his Sheriffs' Badge?  Behind his lapel, underneath the rather impressive heavy golden chain of office he had pinned a plastic Sheriffs' badge, which he would flash, much to the amusement of all around!!

Well, the Christmas season has come and gone with its full share of emotions, highs and lows, as usual. Who knows what the rest of the year holds for us, our families and friends?” says director Sue Lister. “The one thing we can be certain of in life is that death, sometime, somewhere, is part of it. The challenge is coming to terms with this. That’s why we’re about to explore the whole issue at the York International Women’s Week in March.”

Death comes in so many ways, suggests Sue. “It may come suddenly out of the blue or you may see it coming for years; it can be harrowing or peaceful, a shock or a relief,” she says. “How do we live with it while it’s happening to someone else? How do we survive the death of someone close to us? How do we face our own mortality? Death is an emotional roller coaster; how do we deal with it?”

Sue says our society tends to sweep death under the carpet, trying to avoid it at all costs. “In other cultures death is recognised as part of life and accepted as par for the course. What can we learn from these different attitudes? Can talking about it make it easier to live with?,” she asks. “The Real People Theatre intend to grasp the nettle in our 16th production for York International Women’s Week, and we hope to take the show to the second Before I Die festival in May too.

“Last May, the first festival offered 40 events looking at many aspects of death and dying, such as music to die for; drama; poetry; personal stories, including a trip to Dignitas; tours of the cemetery and crematorium; panel discussions and death cafes. It was inspirational.”

As a women’s theatre company, Real People want to look at death and dying from women’s points of view, says Sue. “Our aim is to put together a collage of poetry, drama, music, song and dance on the theme of death and dying. Charles Hutchinson from The Press did a wonderful write up on this exciting new production from The Real People Theatre Company...I'm really looking forward to working with Sue and Ann on this production and to meeting the other contributors.

"Well, the Christmas season has come and gone with its full share of emotions, highs and lows, as usual. Who knows what the rest of the year holds for us, our families and friends?” says director Sue Lister. “The one thing we can be certain of in life is that death, sometime, somewhere, is part of it. The challenge is coming to terms with this. That’s why we’re about to explore the whole issue at the York International Women’s Week in March.”

Death comes in so many ways, suggests Sue. “It may come suddenly out of the blue or you may see it coming for years; it can be harrowing or peaceful, a shock or a relief,” she says. “How do we live with it while it’s happening to someone else? How do we survive the death of someone close to us? How do we face our own mortality? Death is an emotional roller coaster; how do we deal with it?”

Sue says our society tends to sweep death under the carpet, trying to avoid it at all costs. “In other cultures death is recognised as part of life and accepted as par for the course. What can we learn from these different attitudes? Can talking about it make it easier to live with?,” she asks. “The Real People Theatre intend to grasp the nettle in our 16th production for York International Women’s Week, and we hope to take the show to the second Before I Die festival in May too.

“Last May, the first festival offered 40 events looking at many aspects of death and dying, such as music to die for; drama; poetry; personal stories, including a trip to Dignitas; tours of the cemetery and crematorium; panel discussions and death cafes. It was inspirational.”

As a women’s theatre company, Real People want to look at death and dying from women’s points of view, says Sue. “Our aim is to put together a collage of poetry, drama, music, song and dance on the theme of death and dying. Pro and con, religious and non. To share the human experience of living and dying,” she explains. “It can be empowering..."

For this event we're going to be doing two special 45 minute concerts.  Over the last couple of years I've loved coming to the Gallery and playing.  It's a great art space and very relaxing!  I'm always inspired by all the lovely artists I meet and love to gaze at their paintings and sculptures.

I was delighted to be contacted by Karen Leaf the activities co-ordinator for the organisation WiSE (Wetherby in Support of the Elderly).  Karen organises many events of interest for the elderly and one of these is a monthly get together called The Elderberries.   I'll be spending the afternoon singing and playing and telling stories about the inspiration and background to my songs, as well as sharing some history on the Celtic Harp.  It's always a delight to share my songs with new audiences and so I'm really looking forward to the afternoon!

This exhibition will see me playing a whole host of music and singing songs inspired by Finland, Sweden, Scotland and England.

It's become a regular event now for me to sit in the gorgeous surroundings of the Art Gallery at Danby.  I sit and play my harp and sing my songs, then every now and again I have a chat to visitors and artists.   I'm always inspired by all the lovely artists I meet and love to gaze at their paintings and sculptures.  The Exhibition openings are always a pleasure to attend and I can highly recommend a visit!

I played at the Selby LittleFest in 2013 and it was brilliant ~ taking music right out into the community!  I played in a wedding shop, a cafe and a gentlemens outfitters and each gig was totally unique!  Well worth a trip over to Selby as there's so many events and brilliant musicians playing.

 This is a community project and part of 'On Our Turf' a two year project led by York Theatre Royal.

The Little Fest is being held in various venues around the town, including cafes, pubs, shops, churches, outside areas, schools and any other area where there are people!

Soundsphere Album Launch Germany Tour 2015

We're delighted to announce that at the end of May we shall be returning to Angela's homeland.  The wonderful forests and green fields of the Odenwald just south of Frankfurt have become favourites of ours too.  We've been to Germany many times with Angela and of course this will be our first visit without her.  After the success of our UK album launch back in December, we're taking the opportunity to catch up with family and friends and officially launch the album of Angela's songs abroad.

Rose Drew from Stairwell Books is brilliant!  She's funny, savvy and makes things happen, I greatly admire her energy and enthusiasm for supporting and promoting literature and poetry.   I sang and played at Maxine Ridges'  "When the Crow Cries" book launch last Autumn, we had a wonderful evening,  so I'm delighted to be asked by Rose to play once again.   The book launch is to celebrate the work of two Leeds Trinity Lecturers;  Professor 'Oz' Hardwick with an anthology of poetry by 8 medievalists.  They have written poetry that reflect the influences of their day job, which sounds interesting!  Plus Amina Alyal's debut collection of moving and wonderful poetry.  I look forward to hearing readings from both these brilliantly talented poets.  It will be a great night!

A concert to launch Ostler's Dog CD "The St. Leonard Sessions".  We're more than happy to be asked to take part in this fundraiser concert in memory of Steve Kenwright.  Steve was a great musician, inspiring teacher to many and active green campaigner and is missed by many. 

Playing on the bill will be The Bronze, Blonde on Bob, New Earswick Musical Society and John Waughan/Paul Robson/Bar Bowen/Ralph Brown (The rest of Ostler's Dog).

On a personal note I had the pleasure of spending a little time with Steve at St. Leonard's Hospice when I visited to play a concert for patients.  There are people in this world who are with us for a shorter time than many, but live their life with such fullness and generosity of spirit, Steve was a wonderful teacher who inspired so many of his pupils - his spirit lives on...

Many years ago I used to work in Hull and got to walk around the streets getting to know the place a bit.  Over the years since it has flourished and has become so vibrant in the music and arts.  So this is a festival I'm so looking forward to - situated at various venues around Hull there is plenty on for everyone.  I'm delighted that I've been offered a last minute slot on the Busking Stage - should be fun!

I am delighted to be working with the Howsham Mill trustees to help them create a wonderful celebration day of festivities for this extraordinary building.  It's in the village just down the road where I live and it's on my dog walking route.  I have followed the journey the old mill has taken over the years, watching it bit by bit being fully restored and working!  The Heritage Open Day is part of a nationwide celebration of all Heritage venues and the trustees have had a great idea to have a feast of wonderful music by some great singer songwriters and musicians.  Artists and crafters will be getting involved and there are going to be activities for children too, so bring the whole family - take a tour around the mill and learn about the history of the mill and how it works.  I'll be playing on the day as well as co-ordinating all the musicians and doing the sound engineering...I love doing this sort of thing and it's great to bring so many wonderful musicians together to play in such a lovely setting.

For this event we're going to be doing two special 45 minute concerts.  Over the last couple of years I've loved coming to the Gallery and playing.  It's a great art space and very relaxing!  I'm always inspired by all the lovely artists I meet and love to gaze at their paintings and sculptures.  The Exhibition openings are always a pleasure to attend and I can highly recommend a visit!

"...The Carrivick Sisters are one of the UK's top young bluegrass and folk acts. Twins Laura and Charlotte perform their original songs and instrumentals along with a few carefully chosen covers on guitar, mandolin, fiddle, dobro, and clawhammer banjo. Their busy touring schedule is rapidly building them a reputation for engaging and entertaining live performances with tight sibling vocal harmonies and multi-instrumental virtuosity. Having grown up in South Devon, an area rich in folk lore and legends, much of their original material is inspired by their local surroundings and history.

As well as touring all over the UK, the Carrivick Sisters have performed at major festivals in Canada and mainland Europe. They have released four CDs ("My Own Two Feet" - 2006, "Better Than 6 Cakes" - 2007, "Jupiter's Corner" - 2009, and "From the Fields" - 2011) to much critical acclaim, with "From the Fields" having been played on national radio. Their fifth, "Over the Edge" was released in October 2013..."

November Tour with Luna Rossa (November 2014)

This will be my second tour with Luna Rossa - happy days!

I can't believe that the year since we last toured together has flown by so quickly, without wishing the days away though I am really exited to be joining Anne-Marie Helder and Jonathan Edwards, our tour last year was really fabulous.  Working on their incredible music was a joy, recording being a small part of the beautiful Secrets & Lies album, which as Luna Rossa's second album received rave reviews from the media.    Anne-Marie and Jonathan Edwards of Panic Room got together to record their first album as a duo in 2013.   Luna Rossa's first album 'Sleeping Pills & Lullabies' is quite frankly sublime and has had superb reviews.  Anne-Marie has a voice I have long admired and the combination of Jonathans stunning piano arrangements combined with a string quartet, double bass, guitar, autoharp, celtic harp and celeste all meld together into something quite beautiful.  Despite being incredibly busy with their increasingly successful band Panic Room they still find time to pursue new material as the acoustic duo.  Such creativity is infectious to be around!  

For the tour there will be Anne-Marie on vocals, acoustic guitar and flute, Jon on piano, Andy 'Wal' Coughlin on electric and double bass, (not to mention the endless stream of jokes) and myself on harp, backing vocals, percussion and whistling.

I thought it was a couple of years ago when I last did a guest spot at the wonderful Pickering Acoustic Music session - but in fact it was three years ago!  I remember a very wintry blizzardy afternoon and setting off at 5pm carrying my harp - yes, I didn't have at that time and I used to trot down the lane to the bus stop on the A64, just under a mile!! Madness!  The blizzard set in and the bus was late and in fact I got a bus eventually to Malton and Martin picked me up ~ We had a great crowd in that night - despite the increasing snow!  Always great support in Pickering, it's a great music club  and so I'm really looking forward to it!

So many of my dear friends are musicians and it's always really lovely to be asked to take part in their musical journeys.   

Heather Findlay is an incredibly talented singer songwriter with the most beautiful voice ever!  So very inspirational to watch someone develope and grow over the years.  Heather collaborated with Miami based Dave Kerzner to produce an exquisite body of work.  I shall be doing a few backing vocals here and there and a tiny bit of alto recorder.

It's going to be a wonderful night and The Lion Inn at Blakey is a particularly resonant and intimate venue for this most special of concerts.

Two years to the day - we're back! Supporting Ray Cooper, highly acclaimed singer songwriter.

As part of the week long Jorvik Viking Festival, Barley Hall is putting on this concert and I'm really exited about it.  Playing with two of my favourite musicians and also in a building that is very close to my heart.  I am joining my good friends Jane Stockdale and Chris Bartram aka To The Blue to do a support set for the wonderful and charismatic Ray Cooper.

"Born of a Scottish mother and an English father, Ray Cooper grew up in England and started to play in bands when he was 16. Moving between rock, punk, pop and world music, and working as a singer, bass guitar player and cellist, he finally hooked up with Oysterband in 1988 and began a long exploration into his own roots.  Moving to Sweden in 2000, Cooper continued playing with Oysterband, eventually touring in 27 countries and recording 19 albums. In 2012 they won 3 awards from BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards for best group, best album and best traditional track and were dubbed by fRoots magazine as one of the 3 ‘Icons Of Folk’..."

Friday 24th -> Sunday 26th June 2016 - Holy Island Festival 2016, Northumberland 

THE UNTHANKS, THE LINDISFARNE STORY BAND &.........TO THE BLUE (+1)!

It's the second year for this festival and Jane & Chris as To The Blue played last year and went down a storm!  This festival promises to be brilliant with headliners of the calibre of The Unthanks we're really excited!  Quite frankly what a setting!  The access to Holy Island is by a causeway and only accessible at certain times of day, what with the water and all that....so our audience is held captive!  There is no escape!!  They have just finished building a brand new performance space, still called The Village Hall it is a fully equiped stage and seating for 200 people.  A beautifully designed hall with performance and exhibition space, it's a real benefit to this unique island, both for island dwellers and visitors. 

We're on stage at 2.30pm in The Village Hall

We're so looking forward to our trip up to Northumberland, it's a beautiful island and the Northumbrian coastline is amazing, it promises to be such a lovely weekend.  Check out the website for details of other acts confirmed.

I can't really explain to you how much this support means to me - to play for a band that had such an important part to play in my musical development and tastes.  If I had thought all those years ago when I first picked up Midnight Mushrumps and wondered at the musicality of it all.  The sound intrigued me, they intrigued me and if I never did another concert after this one I would be complete.  I sing The Ploughboy's Dream with the Schruti Box and always think of Gryphon when I do so.  To be able to meet these guys is a bit beyond awesome for me!

I was delighted when Chris Wade asked if I was free to participate in the festival in 2014 and really pleased to be asked again for 2016.  I had a wonderful time playing in various locations and this year I will be busking and also taking part in the afternoon concert!

I shall definately be singing The Flither Girls in honour of the brave and hardworking fisherfolk women of this beautiful coastline.

I last played at The Art Market in the Racecourse last year and it was a really lovely afternoon, surrounded by amazing art in the grand space of the events centre!  This is the 2nd year it's being held in the Racecourse and is a real must if you love your arts and crafts.  The Arts Barge are providing music too so it's definitely a celebration of wonderful creativity and I'm delighted to have been asked to play.    The Art Market brings together over 120 artists, craftsmen and designer-makers from all over the country, complemented by a programme of workshops, talks, installations, demonstrations and live music.

 Well the joy of doing what I do is that I get to play and sing my songs at so many different places and for so many different people!  Last year I played at the Wetherby Ladies Forum and also The Elderberries Club and had a brilliant time!  We'll be singing some Christmas songs too here and drinking lots of tea and eating mince pies - a lovely way to start the Christmas season!!

I am so happy to have been asked to contribute a few songs to this event - as you know Don and myself have performed together on a few occasions, holding evenings of song and poetry swapping.  Our subject matter sometimes crossing over so that we compliment each other wonderfully, we never really had a plan of what we would do but always one song followed one poem and so it would go, weaving a story both in music and rhyme.  

This is a lunchtime celebration of Dons work and Don will be reading some of his poems for our delight!

 I played at this venue with lovely Luna Rossa back in November of 2014 and loved this venue, it's a renowned venue right in the heart of London,  so chuffed to be going back!  Sooo, this will be the second of three supports for the fabulous Touchstone!  Myself and Martin Ledger (guitars, vocals) will be joining Heather for this three gig support for Touchstone as part of their Christmas Bash mini tour!  We'll be melding beautiful harmony vocals, guitars, harp, dulcimer and woodwind for some special tunes for the festive season.

For this special event we're going to be doing two special 45 minute concerts.  I think that some beautiful songs of love are appropriate here!  Over the last few years I've loved coming to the Gallery and playing.  It's a great art space and very relaxing!  I'm always inspired by all the lovely artists I meet and love to gaze at their paintings and sculptures.  The Exhibition openings are always a pleasure to attend and I can highly recommend a visit!

 We just love singing and we love to share our passion!  We have put together a 5 day singing workshop experience for anyone who would like to explore finding their voice.  The course is open to all ages and abilities, whether you've never sung before or if you do a little or a lot.  With 15+ years of workshop experience behind us we can take you on a fun and invigorating journey through songs of the world to ensure that your holiday is enjoyable and rewarding!  Taste a bit of rural Normandy in the beautiful village of Chatillon sur Colmont set atop the gentle rolling hills.  The house is situated in the village square with the church and bakery adjoining!   Spacious garden areas allow participants to relax and enjoy the impressive views of the surrounding rural landscape.
